A Partner in the Agribusiness group, Peter has been involved in a significant number of the major rural property transactions in Northern Australia in both broad-acre farming and grazing sectors over the past 33 years.
Peter’s clients include ASX listed companies involved in agriculture, private companies, offshore investors, large family owned enterprises and intergenerational landholders.
He has gained a wealth of experience in guiding his clients through complex laws relating to structuring, taxation, stamp duty, land tenures, water rights, vegetation management and native title in the context of rural property transactions throughout Northern Australia. Many of Peter’s clients are household names in the agricultural sector.
Because of the massive investment in Queensland particularly by companies involved in the coal seam gas and mining sectors in recent years, Peter has negotiated compensation and access arrangements on behalf of rural landowners.
He has developed strong professional and personal relationships with a number of leading service providers and advisors to the farming and grazing industries and these relationships have resulted in an ease of doing business for many of Peter’s clients.
As Peter’s family were involved in the grazing industry in western Queensland for many years, he has a deep understanding of the importance of succession planning for business owners in the agricultural sector and the strategies which need to be put in place to secure outcomes that actually work. Many of Peter’s clients are second and third generations of the same families.
Thynne + Macartney has the leading agribusiness legal practice in Queensland and acts for over 1,200 corporations and families operating in the rural sector.
