In July, Julian Troy joined the Commercial Dispute Resolution team as Special Counsel. Julian is a Construction Law specialist and has over 13 years’ experience in building and construction law including front and back end work, and commercial litigation. He has steered clients through the challenges of managing major infrastructure projects across Australia and has worked in-house for GHD and Alstrom Limited. Julian is skilled in contract drafting, advising clients on commercial risks under construction contracts, resolving disputes and assisting clients to meet their commercial objectives. He specialises in construction litigation, including payment disputes under the BCIP Act, and subcontractors’ charges claims.

At the beginning of August, the firm took another leap forward with two specialists coming on board.

Clayton Payne joined the firm as Special Counsel and lead solicitor of the firm’s Employment & Industrial Relations practice. He has almost 20 years experience in working with employers and businesses to navigate through the sometimes uncertain terrain of workplace related matters including workplace disputes, drafting and advising on industrial instruments, advising and providing representation in relation to unlawful discrimination and sexual harassment matters, advising and providing advice on work health and safety matters, and policy development and training. He has assisted a range of industries and sectors find a better way of managing their Employment & Industrial Relations including mining and resources, construction and engineering, manufacturing, professional services, insurance, transport, recruitment and on-hire, and agriculture.

Jessica Carroll joined the Business Advisory & Dispute Resolution team as a Lawyer. Jessica has nearly five years’ experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution and she helps clients stay on track during the most challenging dispute resolution processes. Her experience includes disputes related to commercial contracts, Australian Consumer Law, trade practices, negligence, bankruptcy and debt recovery. She also has experience in Land Court proceedings, having advised and acted on behalf of both mining corporations and statutory bodies in relation to appeals against financial assurance decisions, applications to stay administrative decisions, and objections to proposed mining lease and environmental authorities. Jessica has acted for large companies, directors, political parties, statutory bodies, politicians and high-wealth individuals.

Last year, Thynne + Macartney acquired two new partners, Mark Winn to the Business Advisory and Dispute Resolution Team and Karen Gaston as Head of Private Clients.
