Meet the Great Queenslanders

The people, charities and businesses who make our State great.

In March 2023, Thynne + Macartney will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the partnership of Andrew Thynne and Edward Macartney making our firm the oldest firm in Brisbane still trading under its original name.

It is not everyday that you get to celebrate 130 years and we thought that it is definitely something to talk about, but what to say?

It made us think about the other people, charity and businesses out there who do what they do every day to make Queensland the great State it is – the ones we don’t always hear about.

We want to meet them and talk about them – those integral members of our communities and State – Great Queenslanders.

Over the next year, we are asking people and communities to nominate their Great Queenslanders so we can feature those people who have helped to build Queensland, and those who are playing a significant role in the development of Queensland in the years ahead, particularly as we head towards #Brisbane2032.

Are you, or do you know, a Great Queenslander?

Established in 1893, Thynne + Macartney has helped people and businesses to build and grow within Queensland and across Australia, as well as navigate the challenges and issues that sometimes arise. Our firm’s history is intertwined with the development of the State, but we haven’t shouted it from the rooftops. It is just not our style.

However, it is not every day that you get to celebrate 130 years of continuous operation and we thought that was something to shout about, but what to say?

Then we realised there must be other people, businesses and charities out there who get on with what they have to do to make Queensland the great state it is – other Great Queenslanders.
