Thynne + Macartney's Nichola Di Muzio has been appointed as an Honorary Member of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) for her significant contribution to the advancement of women in the legal profession.
With over 30 years’ experience in family law, Nichola is a Queensland Law Society Family Law Accredited Specialist and co-leads Thynne + Macartney’s Family Law practice. She has role modelled a culture of mentoring the next generation of women lawyers and a commitment to social justice through the provision of pro bono services.
For more than 15 years, Nichola has assisted disadvantaged and vulnerable women to navigate family law and domestic and family violence matters as a volunteer lawyer with the Women’s Legal Service Queensland. Nichola is also an experienced early career lawyer mentor with longstanding ties to the Griffith University Mentoring Program and the QUT Career Mentor Scheme, as well as Thynne + Macartney’s own in-house mentoring program. In 2019 she was awarded the inaugural Griffith University Remarkable Mentor Award.
Nichola is also a Nationally Accredited Mediator and trained Collaborative Practitioner. She endeavours to assist her clients resolve their disputes, whether about parenting and financial matters, by negotiating agreements in the most cost-effective and timely manner, without the uncertainty and delay that is often involved with litigation in the Family Court.
In 2023, Nichola stood down from the WLAQ Management Committee. She served as Treasurer of the organisation for 9 years with her last year as Vice-President.
Nichola joins an esteemed group of WLAQ Honorary Members who have inspired and led the profession including the Hon Sarah Derrington AM, the Hon Margaret McMurdo AC, the Hon Justice Debra Mullins AO, the Hon Ann Lyons AM, the Hon Rebecca Treston, Noela L’Estrange, Veronica McCarthy and Ann-Maree David.
