Earlier this month, urban and regional rowers and spectators from across Queensland and New South Wales came together in Barcaldine and Longreach for the Bentleys 2024 Australian Outback Rowing Regatta.
Thynne + Macartney’s Bush Boats Program assisted four regional teams, from Longreach, Cunnamulla, Chinchilla and Toowoomba, to participate in the Regatta alongside three Orphan Crews, five crews from New South Wales and Queensland Club Crews from Rockhampton to Brisbane.
Agriculture Partner Alex Ramsey brushed off his zoot suit to participate in the two-day event, kicking off with a short course Henley-style duel and elimination gift series at Barcaldine Recreational Park on 5 October. The competition wrapped up on day two with a 6 km head race on the Thomson River at Apex Riverside Park in Longreach.
Now in its third year, the Regatta brings together people from across Queensland and New South Wales, promoting the sport and contributing to great bush communities. Outback Rowing Australia’s mission is to reduce the gap between rural and urban health standards through equal access to organised sports for people of all ages and physical abilities.
Congratulations to the winners and participants, support crews, volunteers, spectators, sponsors and Outback Rowing Australia, for an incredibly successful and rewarding event. See more at Outback Rowing Australia.
