Peter Jolly, Deputy Chairman of Partners at Thynne + Macartney, has been announced a Finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards in the category of ‘Commercial’ law.
Peter is joint Head of the Business Advisory & Dispute Resolution Group at Thynne + Macartney and shares his extensive experience as a Business Law expert in providing guidance for the firm both strategically and culturally.
“Peter isn’t just a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in Business Law, he is also a Deputy Chair of the Queensland Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Board and a Senior Counsellor with the Queensland Law Society. He has decades of experience in giving clients back control over their business and showing them a better way forward,” Ashley Lamb, the General Manager of Thynne + Macartney said.
Peter is a member of the firm’s Executive Board and as a senior decision maker within the firm, he has a vital role to play in helping the firm move forward without restriction dealing with areas such as general operations, finance, marketing, IT and human resources. He provides advice to the wider partnership on these broad issues, setting policy and making budgetary decisions with the fellow members of the Executive.
“He has broken new ground for the firm as a key member of Thynne + Macartney’s Branding Committee in 2014 and again in 2016, as the firm starts to explore a new program to reposition itself in the market. Peter’s business experience has provided the context and leadership skills to bring about necessary cultural change within the firm,” Ashley Lamb said.
Peter’s mentoring has helped bring about a shift in perspective. This involved assisting a new Business Advisory & Dispute Resolution Group partner to make use of the firm’s flexible working arrangements after a period of maternity leave and supporting her with the transition to a flexible working week. The Group’s success in this endeavour has helped bring about cultural change within the firm and develop new attitudes among the firm’s leadership about the benefits of flexible working arrangements for partners and senior staff. Through this mentoring process and by identifying and developing younger lawyers with potential, Peter is not only contributing to the growth of the firm but to also the growth of the Group’s practice areas.
Peter is also an enthusiastic supporter of firm’s health and well-being corporate activities, participating in activities such as the Australian Super Corporate Triathlon and the PwC Cool Night Classic.
For the past three years, Peter has invested his time and energy in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, helping the homeless to find freedom from stigma and the other setbacks of life on the streets. Peter has personally raised over $15,000.
“Peter has been at the forefront of showing the firm a better way across many different areas including health and well-being, career development and social responsibility, not just operations. He leads by personal example using good humour and common sense. We believe that Peter definitely deserves to be a Finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards and we congratulate him,” Ashley Lamb said.
The winners of the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards will be announced in Sydney on Thursday 28 April, 2016.
