Thynne + Macartney’s Matthew Hockaday and Mark Boge named “Lawyers of the Year” by Best Lawyers

15 April 2021

Best Lawyers Australia recognises sixteen Thynne + Macartney lawyers in their 2022 edition.

Thynne + Macartney continues to be recognised as one of Queensland’s leading law firms with sixteen lawyers being awarded twenty-nine rankings across nineteen practice areas.

In particular, two of our lawyers have been recognised as Australia’s Lawyer of the Year:

  • Partner Matthew Hockaday is Australia’s Lawyer of the Year for Shipping & Maritime Law; and
  • Consultant Mark Boge is Australia’s Lawyer of the Year for Native Title Law.

Matthew’s recognition follows Partner Michael Fisher’s recognition as Australia’s Lawyer of the Year for Shipping & Maritime Law in last year’s edition.

Congratulations to Alex Ramsey, a Partner in our Agribusiness group, for his first recognition in the category of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

“Thynne + Macartney has been helping people build and grow in Queensland for over 128 years,” says Chairman of Partners, Peter Jolly, “Our ongoing recognition by Best Lawyers is a testament to the growing skill and knowledge of our senior lawyers. We are particularly proud of Matthew and Mark for their recognition as Lawyer of the Year in their respective categories, and Alex who is recognised for the first time in his third year of partnership.”

This year also marks the 5 and 10-year anniversary since the following lawyers were first recognised by the publication:

  • 5-year anniversary: Karen Gaston, Matthew Hockaday, Marc Maskell, Tim Quirk, Cameron Solley and Aaron Webb.
  • 10-year anniversary: Michael Fisher, Peter Jolly, Peter Kenny and John Moore.

Inclusion in Best Lawyers Australia is based entirely on peer-review which is designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area.
